Snow Queen comes to Junction for Half Term Treat

Acclaimed children’s theatre company tutti frutti and York Theatre Royal team up again to present Mike Kenny’s adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s highly-acclaimed story, Snow Queen, coming to Junction in Goole on Saturday 27 October, 2pm.

Kai and Gerda had been friends for as long as they could remember. Day followed day, always the same. Until in a whirl of magic and deception, splinters of a magical broken mirror blow in the wind, freezing hearts and changing everything! As Kai is pulled under the spell of the powerful Snow Queen of ice and coldness in a whirl of magic and deception, we follow Gerda’s quest to save her friend and return life to normal. Can things ever be the same again?

Writer Mike Kenny has taken Hans Christian Andersen’s most highly acclaimed story and simplified it into a tale for the young and their families. He said: “Hans Christian Andersen was probably the first proper genius storyteller for children. I have worked with tutti frutti on a lot of plays over the years but maybe nothing quite this epic. At the heart of the story is a friendship. There’s something very moving about the boy who is so hurt that he closes off his feelings, and the girl who sets out to find him and through sheer force of will, melts that frozen heart. They both grow in the process.”

Director Wendy Harris said: “The key thing I’m excited about is we are taking a slightly different approach to the original Snow Queen story and have simplified it, selecting all the parts that children and families will relate to and enjoy. We have a fabulous strong female protagonist who goes on a quest to save her friend Kai.”

The action follows Gerda’s quest to save her friend and return life to normal. Her winter journey is about loyalty, loss and love and the dangers of the unknown.

Tickets priced £6.50 (adult) £5 (child) are available from the Box Office on 01405 763652 and www.junctiongoole.co.uk
