Comedy Rock Musical Comes to Market Weighton

Great music, vibrant stage action and a man–eating plant are promised when a well - known musical play comes to the Market Weighton Community Hall in July, performed by an award–winning, local community youth theatre group.

Weighton Young Players (WYPs)- are staging “Little Shop of Horrors”, a tongue-in-cheek, dark and delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman.

In the play, performed by WYPs Musical Theatre group, Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a florist’s shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his love interest at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for human blood.

As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of blood. Just when it’s too late, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s extra-terrestrial origins and his true drive for world

domination.

Director and WYPs leader, Val Brogden says: “This will be our third musical, and it has been exceptionally challenging. It has also been great fun taking our young people on such an exciting and rewarding journey. Thankfully, with the support of a fabulous team and great cast members, we can promise audiences young and old an exciting and entertaining show.

"I would like to thank the wonderful WYPs team who have worked so hard and who have helped bring this tongue-in-cheek, dark comedy to life.”

There are two performances at the Community Hall, Station Road on July 20th: a matinee at 2:30 pm and an evening performance at 7pm. Tickets at £7 are on sale from the Paper Shop, Market Place, or on the doort, and there are family tickets available at £25 which buys two adult and two child tickets.
