Spring season announced at Pocklington
What do jam sandwiches, trains and the Swiss Alps have in common? They all feature in the spring 2019 programme of live events at Pocklington Arts Centre (PAC).
From gritty, taboo-busting medical drama to magical family-friendly puppetry and from interactive orchestral music for budding young Mozarts to absurd rail related comedy, PAC’s jam-packed programme of live events for the new season really does have it all.
PAC director Janet Farmer said: “After a record-breaking 2018, we’re really excited to be releasing tickets for our first new events of the 2019 spring season, and we can’t wait to launch our main spring/summer brochure in February which promises a dynamic programme of live theatre, music, and comedy, plus workshops and exhibitions.
“February is already going to be an incredibly busy month for us, with sold-out shows from Jason Donovan, Holy Moly & The Crackers, Fisherman’s Friends, Steve Harley Acoustic Trio and The Searchers, and we have got so much more to come.
The first tickets for a series of new, exciting live events for all ages go on sale at 10am on Tuesday 15 January, starting with ‘Wait? What?’ on Friday 1 March, 1pm and 5pm, when the award-winning Sinfonia Viva Orchestra will give an interactive concert featuring new music written and presented by composer Jack Ross.
Children, and jam lovers alike, will be equally as excited to learn that favourite storybook, The Giant Jam Sandwich, will be brought to life at 2.30pm on Saturday 9 March.
In this fun-packed feast for 3-7 year-olds, find out what happens when one hot summer’s day 4 million wasps invade the village of Itching Down, and Bap the baker comes up with an ingenious idea to bake the biggest wasp trap ever.
On Saturday 13 April, at 2.30pm, children aged 2-8 can join Oskar’s Amazing Adventure, from Theatre Fideri Fidera, and find out what happens when Oskar the puppy ventures into the wilderness of the Swiss Alps in search of friendship after being snowbound in his little house on top of the mountain for weeks.
Pipeline Theatre will take audiences on a break-neck, darkly comic and taboo-busting journey with NHS staff at an overstretched hospital with ‘Drip, Drip, Drip’ on Wednesday 6 March, 7.30pm.
Jump aboard Strangers on a Train Set for a whistle stop tour that will leave you breathless and racing for the refreshment coach on Thursday 4 April, 7.30pm.
Challenging a youth to turn down his music, Irene Sparrow, inventor of the left-handed crochet hook (patent pending, as seen on Dragon’s Den) finds herself under suspicion of murder after the train emerges from a tunnel with the young man dead.However, this is Lip Service Theatre, so this is no ordinary train, each passenger is reading a book, and each book is a portal into a parallel universe of train related crime fiction.
Storyteller, poet, and Radio 4 regular John Osborne brings his 2011 sell-out Edinburgh show ‘John Peel’s Shed’ to PAC on Wednesday 27 March, at 7.30pm.The acclaimed production, which has appeared at Soho Theatre and Glastonbury Festival, features a selection of records previously owned by the late John Peel, many of which are very rare recordings by obscure and now defunct bands, providing a unique opportunity for any Peel or simply music fans.
And for music fans, as Yorkshire’s Outstanding Large Live Venue, (Grassroots Gig Guide Awards 2018) PAC is proud to once again present a smorgasbord of phenomenal live music this year.
Having toured together since 1986 to packed concert halls all over the world, Scotland’s supreme fiddle player Aly Bain and world famous accordion player Phil Cunningham bring their on-stage charisma, humour banter, and stunning music to PAC on Thursday 28 March, 8pm.
Hailed as “Probably the most quintessentially English pop voice of its generation” (The Times) founding member of The Zombies, and successful singer-songwriter in his own right, Colin Blunstone will be live at PAC on Friday 5 April, at 8pm.
