Final line-up of independent cinema for 2018 underway

Hull Independent Cinema has launched its final season of the year. The programme, which runs from October to December at Vue Cinema Hull Princes Quay and Hull Truck Theatre, features the very best new independent, award-winning and critically acclaimed films from around the world. Foreign gems this season include Polish romantic drama Cold War from IDA director Pawel Pawlikowski, the new hypnotic trip Climax from French shock auteur Gaspar Noé, and the Italian crime drama Dogman, Best Actor winner at Cannes. English-language film comes from the US, UK and Ireland, including Black ‘47, a controversial examination of the Irish famine of the mid-nineteenth century; Peterloo, an epic telling of the massacre of pro-reform protesters in Manchester in 1819; and Blindspotting, a timely look at the intersection of class and race in modern America from the viewpoint of a man on probation trying to make a new start in life.

Documentaries have proved increasingly popular with Hull Independent Cinema audiences in 2018, so the final season of the year features no fewer than four of them: political US director Michael Moore’s look at Trump’s America in Fahrenheit 11/9; Oscar Best Documentary winner Faces Places from legendary filmmaker Agnès Varda, Sundance Audience Award winner Science Fair, and the life of renowned rocker Joan Jett in Bad Reputation.

Head of Programming at HIC, Damien Greco, said, “We’re really happy to be rounding off another busy year with a great season of films, bringing some of the best new releases of the autumn to Hull. As ever, it’s a great mix of genres, subjects and languages and we’re confident that there is something for everyone coming up over the next few months. Most of these films won’t be shown anywhere else in the city, so come and join us to discover something different!”
