Hull Welcomes the Return of "Back to Ours"
Keep your eyes peeled for mischief, fun and a few glittery curtains as the ever-popular Back to Ours takes to the streets of Hull with a bus full of unforgettable characters and a lot of noise.
Originally produced as part of Hull UK City of Culture, the festival has attracted world-renown theatre, circus, bands and performers to the city over the past 18 months. It is now one of 21 Arts Council-funded Creative People and Places networks across the country, sporting a fresh new image, but still with the same ethos; to bring high-quality acts to the most everyday of places in the heart of Hull communities.
Louise Yates, Director of Back to Ours, says: ‘What’s more Back to Ours than putting a load of great performers on a bus together and hitting the streets of Hull? It’ll be surprising, chaotic, fun, loud and completely bonkers.
‘We’ll keep popping up where we’re least expected and surprising people.’
The acclaimed festival has brought diverse acts to the most surprising of venues, transforming shopping centres, schools, community centres and clubs into backdrops for everything from live music and magic shows, to dizzying circus acts and film screenings.
Louise Smith, Manager of North Point Shopping Centre at Bransholme, says:
‘I never thought I’d see Shaun Ryder, Reverend and the Makers or Carl Barat play here, and it makes you realise that, with a bit of imagination and passion, anywhere can be a stage.
‘The Bransholme community has completely taken Back to Ours to their hearts – they can’t wait to find out what’s coming next.’
But the control isn’t all in the hands of the festival team; they’re also supporting local communities and artists to take the reins and make their own decisions on commissioning and delivering inspirational work.
