Hull Stories Needed for New Community Play

Hull Truck Theatre and The Centre for Contemporary Storytelling are asking the people of Hull to share their own stories to form the basis of a new community play, The Journey Home.

Over the next few months, writer Rupert Creed (Associate Artist at Hull Truck Theatre and writer of Hull UK City of Culture opening event Made in Hull) will lead workshops to explore and develop the storyline for this ambitious participatory project.

The Journey Home will take place in 2019 and will explore what the ideas of home and community mean to those living in Hull, whether they were born here or have made the city their home.

Hull Truck Theatre are looking for people aged 18 and over to share their stories at a series of informal workshops. Participants will be asked questions such as ‘what does Hull mean to you?’, ‘how did you come to be here?’ and ‘what are the qualities and character of the city’s people?’

Join in the informal conversation at any of the following workshops at Hull Truck Theatre:

Wednesday 7 March, 7pm - 9.30pm Saturday 24 March, 2.30pm - 5pm Wednesday 28 March, 7pm - 9.30pm Saturday 14 April, 2.30pm - 5pm Wednesday 18 April, 7pm - 9.30pm

Participants can sign up for the workshops by contacting Sarah-Louise Penney via community@hulltruck.co.uk or 01482 323638.

Workshops will also be held in various locations in the local community. If you’d like to host a workshop in a community venue near you then please get in touch with Sarah-Louise.

Rupert Creed, writer, says: “I’m really excited to be writing a new community play for Hull in partnership with Hull Truck Theatre. We’d like Hull residents to help us shape the story-line for this ambitious new project and you’re invited to participate in a series of informal workshops. Whether you were born in the city, or have moved here from another region of country, we’d like you to help us tell the story of Hull and its people.”
