Go walking for charity in Beverley's latest drama
Beverley Theatre Company's next production will be Cheshire Cats by Gail Young, as their fundraising focus switches to supporting people with breast cancer.
Grown women, aching feet and heaving bosoms! Follow the Cheshire Cats team as they speedwalk their way to fundraising success in the London Moonwalk. Hilary, Siobhan, Yvonne, Vicky and Maggie are attempting to walk 13 miles across the capital in record time in their decorated bras and posh new trainers, but the sixth member of the team doesn't seem to meet the physical criteria! Cheshire Cats is a cross between a girls' night out and a real mission to support a cause close to many hearts, with plenty of laughs and a few tears along the way.
This inspirational play will take theatre-goers on a roller coaster voyage as they follow the girls through training sessions, railway journeys and the Moonwalk itself, leading to tears of both laughter and sadness as each girl reveals something of her past.
The cast includes many familiar faces from past BTC productions, including Kay Slater, Zoe Conley, Cheryl Giles, William Drew, Bill Watts, Sam Kneeshaw, Pat Mackenzie and Denise Dyble, with welcome returns for Gemma Briggs, Pam Day and, after far too long an absence, Dave and Sue Bugg. There is also a debut for Amy Rigg, a welcome addition to the BTC acting talent, who may just be the one to bring a tear to the eye of the most stiff upper-lipped audience member. The director is Emma Drew, well remembered for her wonderful performance as Geraldine in The Vicar of Dibley.
Also returning after their guest appearance in The Vicar of Dibley are the Positive Note choir from Castle Hill Hospital, who will give a performance during the interval. This choir, made up of people who have been touched by the shadow of cancer in one form or another, either personally or through family or friends, help to raise money to build a quiet garden at Castle Hill Hospital for patients and visitors to sit in. BTC are proud to have helped raise some of their funds during The Vicar of Dibley and hope to help raise more once again with Cheshire Cats.
The play will be performed with kind permission from Samuel French Ltd, at 7.30pm, from Wednesday 13th November to Saturday 16th November 2019, at the Beverley Memorial Hall, Lairgate, Beverley with licensed bar (except Wednesday). There will also be a 2pm matinee on Saturday 16th. Tickets are £8 for adults, £7 for concessions and £20 for a family ticket and are available either:

BTC is fully committed to help raise breast cancer awareness and to raise funds for various cancer charities. Money has already been donated to ‘Walk the Walk’ (who organise the Moonwalk) for breast cancer research and care, and, for the first time, tickets will be sold by the Cancer Research shop at Toll Gavel, Beverley, with 10% of the sales they make going into their funds as a thank you from BTC. Whilst people are, obviously, free to get their tickets however they choose, buying them from Cancer Research at Toll Gavel will help make a real difference.
