New twist on Christmas at Hull Truck

Charles Dickens’ much-loved story Oliver Twist is being brought to life this Christmas on an East Yorkshire stage.

Following the huge popularity of her adaptation of A Christmas Carol last year, Hull Truck Theatre’s most successful Christmas show to date, playwright Deborah McAndrew returns with her magical version of Oliver Twist. The production will include traditional carols, folk songs and original music, and will be directed by Hull Truck Theatre’s Artistic Director Mark Babych.

Join young, orphaned Oliver Twist on an adventure in this festive adaptation of Charles Dickens’ much-loved novel.

Born in a workhouse. Sold into an apprenticeship. Recruited by Fagin’s band of pickpockets and thieves. We follow Oliver as he sinks into London’s grimy underworld on his search for a home, a family and love.

A story of courage in adversity, Oliver Twist is a classic tale that touches us all, with a large dose of Christmas cheer and festive sparkle!

Deborah McAndrew, playwright, says: ‘Oliver Twist is born poor and alone in a world of villainy. Famously, he's the boy who asked for 'more' but all he really wants is a home and a family. In my festive adaptation, Oliver's adventures are set over one year, in which our young hero journeys through darkness and danger towards the light of Christmas.’
